The 20th year of NBA summer hoops in Las Vegas tipped off with a seven-game slate featuring the top three overall picks from the 2024 NBA Draft. Here’s a look at the players who shined brightest on Thursday:
Jalen Wilson, Brooklyn Nets
Wilson capped an impressive 33-point night (11-20 FGs, 6-7 3PM while also grabbing 10 rebounds) by hitting the game-winning bucket in a 102-100 OT win over Orlando. The 23-year-old forward, who will be entering his second NBA season, is averaging 24.5 points in four games in Las Vegas, putting up 25 or more in three of those contests.
Scotty Pippen Jr., Memphis Grizzlies
Just one night after dominating Orlando with a 25-point performance (16 in the fourth quarter), Pippen was at it again, filling the box score with 17 points, six rebounds, 11 assists and three steals in Memphis’ 88-77 win over New Orleans. Pippen’s effort also helped the Grizzlies improve to 4-0 at NBA 2K25 Summer League.
Jaylon Tyson, Cleveland Cavaliers
Tyson did a bit of everything in Thursday’s 93-89 loss to the Lakers. The No. 20 overall pick in this year’s Draft finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and a pair of steals. Not only did he fill the box score, he was ultra efficient, shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line.
Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers’ rookie duo combined for 33 points in a 93-89 win over Cleveland. One night after his best Vegas showing with 12 points, James showed even more with 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Knecht, who sat out the previous game, dropped 20 points and seven rebounds. In his three games in the desert, Knecht is averaging 21.3 points.
Kobe Brown, LA Clippers
Brown seemed to find his game coming out of the halftime break, scoring 19 of his 22 points in the second half to help the Clippers roll past the Utah Jazz 105-88. The win kept LA undefeated and in position to clinch a spot in the semifinals of the NBA 2K25 Summer League. Brown did a bit of everything Thursday, adding four rebounds and a team-high six assists.
